Down in Pine Ridge, Lum’s girlfriend Evelina is about to marry someone else. Several wacky schemes to get her back have been proposed, and thankfully shot down.
Today, Lum talks on the phone with Lizabeth. Lum tells Grandpap about the big fight that caused Abner to have a black eye. It was part of a prank to set Lum up to be a hero, and sweep Evelina off her feet.
Dick Huttleston pops into the Jot ‘em Down store. Dick expresses the reigning popular opinion that it was just Abner acting alone in the practical joke. Lum would like to keep it quiet that he had a part in the thing.
Lum and Grandpap turn their attentions to the store as Dick leaves, and Abner arrives. Since the prank failed, and Evelina learned about it, she phones in to say the wedding to Frank is off.
Horlick drama: A couple are arguing over what to eat for supper. It may be a little bit before it’s finished, but what can they eat now? Something to satisfy, but not be filled up? Could it be something like a Horlick malted milk tablet?
