it’s Saturday morning, and Leroy heads outdoors. At least until Gildersleeve stops him to clean his room, and practice his piano first. As Ben a rise for a visit, Gildy slips away to make a phone call to Miss Piper. As Ben continues to wait for Marjorie, judge Hooker arrives for a visit. The judge warns that since he missed meeting Mrs. Ransom’s train, he may have some work to do in getting back to her good graces. The judge also warns that Gildy may be getting too close to Miss Piper, since the whole town is talking about it. Is the great man a little old for the young girl?

Gildersleeve keeps trying to phone Miss Piper, when he discovers Ben is still present. When Marjorie finally appears to tell him, she can’t make the date, Gildy defends the young man. Is it because that with the six year age difference, Marjorie thinks that Ben is too old for her? Marjorie cuts to the chase and says that he is actually defending himself, and the age gap with the young Miss Piper. Just exactly what are people saying about Gildersleeve behind his back?

Being an episode from AFRS, the major commercial is replaced with the instrumental interlude.

For the first time, Gildy has the confront the age difference in his love affair. Miss Piper is 20, while he is age 44. He decides to man up, and face Mrs. Ransom. Will she be as ready for a date as he is? He comes on a little strong, but she soon tames him for the affection that she’s looking for. The two of them get caught up on events since they been apart. Why does Gildy get so nervous when she brings up playing the piano? Will he be able to easily slip back into the routine of serenading her? When he tries to bring up the topic of age differences in relationships, will Leila get the wrong idea?

Not wanting to give up his newfound love, Gildersleeve decides to visit Rev. Needham. His intentions are short-circuited when he finds Ben and Miss Piper enjoying a glass of lemonade together.
