The Great Gildersleeve – Evening with Miss Piper. ep245, 470402

A black-and-white photo showing two men (Leroy and Gildersleeve). Leroy is on the left and is playing a saxophone, appearing animated and expressive, while Gildersleeve is on the right and holds a script and gestures with a finger to his lips, as if telling Leroy to be quiet. The caption indicates a comedic scene, featuring "The Great Gildersleeve" character, associated with a comedy series announcement on WMAQ-NBC.

we join Floyd in his barbershop, as he relates his perspective on people in town. We roll back the clock to witness Gildersleeve talking with the local pastor. Can he count on seeing Gildersleeve in church this Easter Sunday? Floyd would cut Dr. Needham’s hair for nothing, but the Rev. insists on paying him, plus a tip. When the pastor departs, Floyd talks with Gildersleeve about the return of Mrs. Ransom. Might Gildersleeve have another little fish on his line instead? He’s tightlipped about what her name is when Floyd asks about her.

At home, Gildersleeve arrives while Miss Piper is still giving Leroy’s piano lesson. Marjorie thinks the teacher may be too young for her uncle. He finds that it’s kind of awkward to put the moves on her with his niece and nephew hanging around. Birdie does her best to save the day by inviting Miss Piper to stay for dinner. The newcomer to town feels like she’s fitting right in like a member of the family.

At the dinner table, Gildersleeve does his best to impress the teacher. Marjorie and Leroy seem to be a little more in touch with her than their older uncle. After a musical evening, Gildersleeve walks Miss Piper home. They decide to stop in to visit Peavey’s drugstore. Gildersleeve is a little surprised to find out she’s staying with Dr. Needham.

In epilogue, the president of the craft company shares a special Easter greeting for listeners.
