once again, it’s the day for Leroy’s piano lesson in Gildersleeve is home early to talk to Miss Piper. Gildy manages to get rid of Leroy so he can have tea with the piano teacher. Marjorie enters and interrupts with talk about style and fashion.
Judge Hooker arrives next to interrupt the magical moments of the tea party. Gildersleeve quickly whisks the judge out the door when he brings up the name of Mrs. Ransom.
A picnic is planned on the spur of the moment. As Gildersleeve does his best to flirt, Miss Piper demonstrates her love for birdwatching. She shares all manner of characteristics of the birds that are nearby. However, the only bird that he’s interested in is her. He comes up with the idea of calling each other by bird nicknames.
When Gildersleeve takes her home, Rev. Needham is impressed at the kindness that Gildy is showing on her. No one seems to be aware that Gildy is flirting with her, and the Rev. asks if he can help her find young people to meet and socialize with.
