Perry Mason – Trial Of Mary McKean Begins. 481101

A judge is holding a law book in one hand and wagging his finger in the other.

Perry has found himself once again, bordering on the wrong side of the law, and is hiding out from the police.

Meanwhile in the courtroom, his assistant battles it out with the District Attorney to determine if his client should stand trial or not. Mary McKeen is accused of kidnapping her own child. What? Don’t worry, details come out in future episodes that will explain in more detail.

Back in his office, Perry and Della Street discuss the outlook of the case, as they remain in hiding from the cops. They try to do their own sting operation in the form of posing as a movie crew.

Note: The pace of action in the Perry Mason radio serial is a little slower than those in the well-known novels. The overlapping stories are more in the style of a soap opera, which is exactly what it is. The series ran for years, but available shows can be fragmented, and stretches of the story are missing. Watch for more in the next couple of weeks, but I can’t guarantee how frequently I’ll have shown available.

In the 1950’s when Perry Mason, the stories came to resemble the books, but in a compressed format to fit the 30-minute time slot. The radio version actually did morph into a television show and became, the Edge of Night. In fact, the same actor you are hearing as Perry Mason is also the main character in that television soap opera.
