Jack tries to decide what to do for his birthday tonight. As he joins Rochester in his song, he considers going to a movie. Jack teases Fred Allen about his jokes, and tries to call a date to see his latest movie, Charlie’s Aunt. Just as Jack looks like he won’t have a date, his little neighbor girl visits.

For some traveling music, the orchestra plays a few bars of, “My Mama Done Told Me.” Will Jack have any luck locating a date? Maybe Jack should just stay home and do some reading. He reads from a magazine article about him, as Rochester trims his hair. Mary Livingston arrives to tease him about his article, and his appearance. Mary pulls Rochester aside to let him know that the gang plans to throw him a surprise party. When Dennis arrives, he almost gives away the surprise. Dennis sings a song in honor of Abraham Lincoln’s birthday: This Freedom is Worth Saving.

Jack is on board with a surprise party, as long as he doesn’t have to spring for the food. He talks to his border, Mr. Billingsley who was still playing soldier. Are they still having trouble with the password? The rest of the cast arrive, and Jack this is best to act surprised. Don gives a speech and sees presents a token of their esteem. Schlepperman arrives with the singing telegram and a big finale.
