There’s no time like Christmas. Let’s go back a day, and see what happened in the Gildersleeves home. Anticipation mounts as the family wait for their made, Bertie to enter. New clothes, housewarming gifts, even the door for Marjorie’s new house. Leroy’s new gold watch seems atop the mall. Where did it come from? Will Gildersleeve’s need to have a talk with Mr. Bullard?
Bertie offers her advice. Judge Hooker drops in to see if Gildersleeve is a play Santa Claus, and gets the word about Leroy’s expensive gift. Mr. Bullard arrives to complain that Babs received an expensive string of pearls from Leroy. Are the pricey gifts too much for the youngsters?
It’s time to visit Peavie’s drugstore for some practical advice. Elsewhere, Leroy and Babs are sad over the thought of having to give their gifts back. Bertie eases the pain with a tray of cookies, and milk. Will it help?
Gildersleeve’s and Bullard meet to discuss the virtues of extravagant gifts compared to practical ones. Should they consider it a matter of self-sacrifice? Will they be in time to keep the kids from returning their gifts? It’s too late, but the kids enjoyed receiving the gifts while they had them. Now they’re going to enjoy spending their money again.
