Command Performance – Bette Davis, Georgia Gibbs, Rise Stevens, John Charles Thomas. 431016

Buy Bonds: A large billboard on the exterior of a building promoting war savings stamps. It reads, "Pledge your quarters for victory, buy and invest wisely in War Savings Stamps." The text highlights that these are "guaranteed by U.S. Government” with "4% interest." The advertisement encourages supporting the war. The scene includes a street view with trees, a building with columns, and a decorative streetlamp in front.

Hosted by Betty Davis, who opens by reading greetings from the mailbag. Georgia Gibbs sings, Stormy Weather.

Gary Moore arrives as an encore request. He chats with Betty about his early life. He then tells a story about a gnu named Hugh.

Betty reads more from the mailbag, then introduces Risa Stevens. She sings, Falling in Love with Someone. Afterward Risa and Betty chat, then to honor a mailbag request, Risa sings the Army Air Corps song. (later to be known as the Air Force Song.)

Betty is just a mail reading fool today, but it leads to her introducing the Delta Rythym Boys who sing, St Louis Blues. But in a style that hasn’t likely been heard either before, or since. John Charles Thomas sings, Honey Lamb.

Next up, even Betty gets the chance to sing. They’re Either Too Young or Too Old. Award winning, dramatic actresses aren’t exactly known for their singing ability, but Betty does a passable job.
