Lum and Abner – Poetic License. 420611

A black-and-white photo of Lum and Abner. Lum is on the left and has wavy hair and a mustache. He's wearing a suit and tie, and looks amused or curious. Abner is on the right, has messy hair and a beard, with exaggerated, surprised expression. He's wearing glasses and a dark suit with a bow tie. The composition suggests a comedic setting.

The publishing company hasn’t done any greeting card business, but due to an idea of Mousey Gray, the gents have made him a partner in it. The topic of the way poets misuse words, or crunch them to make a rhyme fit is discussed. Abner gets confused over the concept of poetic license. Do poets need a license to do that?

Lum isn’t sure, so he phones the county seat. If they need a license, he had better get one. Since the courthouse doesn’t know either, they get connected to various licensing departments. Do they need a marriage license a peddler’s licensor some other kind?
