On Stage – The Lady or the Tiger. ep13, 530402

A black and white photograph of Elliott Lewis, a man in a suit and tie, standing in front of a microphone with headphones on. He appears to be speaking or reading from a script, with one hand raised to emphasize a point. The background is dark and nondescript, with no discernible details.

A tale set in ancient times. For entertainment the king would set forth a challenge in the arena. The victim would have the choice of two doors. One led to a hungry tiger, and the other led to a young maiden. The choice would lead either to death, or a happy marriage. The princess is in love with a man, but he isn’t royalty, or suited properly for her. Given the chance to travel and make a name for himself, he returns to try to claim his princess bride.

Through a misunderstanding, the princess becomes infuriated and her suitor becomes the next in the arena. Having second thoughts, she promises that she will signal him as to which door holds the tiger.

Faced with his life and death choice, the man has his own second thoughts as to the trustworthiness of the princess. Will jealous feelings taint the trustworthiness of her signal? Is she mad at the suitor for jilting her? Has he actually given reason for her jealousy? The signal has been given, but should he take it at face value, or try to second guess her feelings?

Listen and enjoy the suspenseful moments at the end.
