Lum had started a gossip campaign to stir up trouble among the women, hoping a rift might derail their bid for political office, and disband their organization. As Lum and Abner talk, we learn of some of the success the gossip campaign has had.
Cedric pops in with some story books, and to pass time with Abner, they review some of the fairy tales, and kiddie stories. Grandpap phones in with urgent news. Lum had left, and when the women gathered for a meeting of the ladies’ association, they found out it was him who started the rumors about them.
I’m sure that Lum wouldn’t normally mind being the center of attention among the ladies, but not this way.
