Abner and grandpap talk about the mess that has come about from the widow’s ad for a husband, and the bunch of sick kids that are filling Lum’s house. They talk about what Lum might do, getting married wouldn’t be all bad for him.
Lum enters with a few complaints about the rambunctious kids. He claims to not like the widow much in his claim to remain single, but maybe it’s because he’s afraid to admit he’s getting to know her and her kids better than he wants. Abner and grandpap try to convince him of the merits of going through with the marriage, and Lum’s mind is beginning to change along that line.
