A band of outlaws discuss their robbery technique. They claim to always have success because they wear masks, and nobody has yet identified them. Elsewhere we learn about Missouri and Sleepy, a couple of charitable old timers, and after trying to lend a hand to Tonto, they witness the bandits getting away from the Osage bank. A posse is soon riding out of town in search of the Brogan gang. Tonto rides off for help, and extends hope that Sleepy and Missouri might have a chance at the reward money. In disguise, Lone Ranger drops what seems to be an innocent hint that the two kindly prospectors go back to protect their mining claim.
Little do they know, but Lone Ranger and Tonto have cooked up a special trap to capture the bandits who are hiding out in the mine. Will the elaborate ruse work? To help nudge things in the right direction, Lone Ranger lets people think he’s an outlaw. The trap is set up in such an elegant fashion to let Missouri and Sleepy get sole credit for catching the dreaded Brogans.
Lessons to be learned: Though the old timers are considered to be ineffectual to ride hard with the posse, it was they who caught the bad guys. When a lie was told to the old prospectors that silver was in their mine, it actually was, but in the form of reward money, and not in silver ore. The charity of the old timers was admired by all, and in the end the townsfolk had no problem with rewarding them for their life long hospitality, and for catching the outlaws.
