Jack Benny – Golden Boy. ep356, 400107

Jack Benny and Carmichael 1939.

The cast joke about the Rose Bowl game. Jack gloats over his bet with Phil Harris, but Phil isn’t nearly as grudging of a loser as Jack expects. Isn’t Jack going to take Phil’s money? Is there some ulterior motive? Dennis Day sings, With the Wind and Rain in Her Hair.

The play has been changed since it was announced last week, and Mary rolls back the clock to share the secret of why. She and Jack take in Phil’s show in the Wiltshire Bowl. The corny jokes are too much for Jack to stand, so he goes to chat with Barbara Stanwick. Will she dance with Jack? How does she like Jack’s impressive style? He corners her into being on his show.

The flashback continues with Rochester helping with the preparations in Jack’s house. When Barbara arrives, she and Jack get ready to rehearse lines. Does Jack’s lines match the drama of Barbara’s? The love scene gets them confused. Is there any amount of rehearsing that will make their scene work?
