Jack Benny (NBC) Christmas Shopping For Perfume And A Necktie. ep353, 391217

A festive image of a vintage Santa Claus holding a large sack of toys over his shoulder, with a snowy background and the words "Spread the Christmas Spirit" written in bold white letters above.

The busiest little man in Hollywood, Jack Benny, is a wreck. He has been doing Christmas shopping, and hanging out at parties, and tells Don about his new picture. Will he be taking the place of Gary Cooper anytime soon? Mary thinks not. Jack tells secrets on Phil hamming it up on the set. Phil claims Jack owes him money after a football bet. Does he? Phil plays, Make with the Kisses.

The argument over gambling, and being a poor sport continues. Don has written another of his one act plays to pitch the sponsor. Set in the North Pole, Santa Jack and Mary respond to letters from good little boys, Phil and Rochester. As Jack and Mary get ready to leave, Dennis arrives to sing, Tomorrow Night.

In the crowded department store, Jack and Mary stay close. What kind of items are on Jack’s shopping list? Mary leaves Jack to deal with a saleslady about a clock. Just how tough are those watches? Mary does her own arguing with the lady in the stockings department. The gruff perfume salesman seems out of place for his product. Rochester is spied on as he buys his boss a gift.

Note: The floor walker is one of Jack’s writers, a part that would later be played by Frank Nelson. The perfume salesman is the person who played Dynamite Dugan in the football mystery from two weeks ago. He would often come back to reprise the role.
