It’s the weekend on the dairy ranch, and a large part of the family has returned for festivities. Cliff goes for a swim with his twin sister, Claudia. She shares about a letter from Nick, and her loneliness. Plans have been made to fly to meet him in New England. Cliff tells about his wonderful outlook of America, the great country that it is, and his physical fitness from working on the dairy farm.
Arrangements are made to watch Claudia’s children in her travels. Ma stops by the swimming hole, but not for a swim. Just to enjoy the scenery. What’s the latest news from Jack, and his progress at parachute school? Upbeat talk of the watermelon contest is shared. Dan seems to be good with all the kids at the picnic, but is he a hit with Hazel? Probably more than she lets on. Betty shares a few tearful words of how she misses her hubby, Jack.
Pa and Margret walk down the path, approaching the group, but not quite there. We join them as Margret asks the age-old question of where she came from. How will Pa respond? Will he try to push it off onto Margret’s mom, or will he be brave enough to tackle it?
