Family Theater CD Front

Bing Crosby, Irene Dunne, Meredith Wilson’s orchestra.
As John and Mary Smith walk, they wonder what’s on the other side of the fence, and they want to have a closer look at the flowers there. Is there a gate? Will they be allowed to pick any flowers and they get in?
When they find a gate made of gold, it sparks conversation about Mary’s old wedding ring, and they dredge up memories of when they first met. Johnny talks about dreams that were sacrificed for the daily grind of living. Neither of them has regrets with her humble life, and not caring for things that may have been.
Who is the old man at the gate? Will their names be in his book? Johnny and Mary suddenly realize that their dead. If that’s the case, who will take care of their son Tommy?
It turns out that John and Mary’s names are not in the book. Only names of noble or heroic people are listed. Isn’t there a book for ordinary people?
The wanderers seem okay with the rules and not being admitted. They are sent on down the road to their destination. Mary just wants one more look at the beautiful flowers to have something to remember before they set out. There aren’t any resentments over being locked out of the good life, are there? Hasn’t Johnny had any heroic accomplishments? The couple finally recall their final night as they face their brave moments during the sinking of their ship.
Will their son grow up to be unselfish, and a way that they were never able to accomplish?
A familiar voice seems to call them in the gate opens.
