more things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of.

Jimmy Stewart, Loretta young, Don Ameche, Meredith Wilson’s orchestra.

Mary Lee prepares to take the train back home to Cleveland. While she waits, she writes a letter to Jim. She recalls their arrival in their home at their honeymoon. They met by going to church every week, and are happy as they anticipate their new married life.

Her letter continues by recounting shadows that grew across their lives. Advancements on the job coming slowly, and the arrival of a new baby. The new purpose in life was derailed on a stormy night. An overconfident a drunken Jim has an accident call taking Mary to the hospital.

Bitterness puts distance between the couple. Jim’s performance even suffers at his job. Should Mary and Jim consider adoption? The three months of planning rejuvenates Mary’s spirits.

Jim brings bad news home with the announcement he’s leaving his job as well as his marriage. The guilt at his responsibility in the loss of their baby has only festered in him. His pride has been too much for him. Will he ever be able to accept the forgiveness that has been offered to him all this time?
Mary has finished her letter, but before she can think of sending it Jim returns home. As his heart been changed?
