Will Bonner is surprised to be waiting on his nephew Ben, in his general store in Stump Hill, Texas. Ben has just been released from jail, and expects to take what’s his. Does he have something owed him? Will he be good on his word to kill to get it? By the time Jase Pearson is on the scene, the safe door is cracked open, and Will is dead on the floor.

The clues are gathered, and Jase soon has a clear picture of who he has to go after, and where to go to find him. Ben is found, but suddenly Jase thinks there could be some piece of the puzzle that doesn’t fit.

Using the high-tech tools of train schedules, and coroner’s report, Jase is able to clear Ben. Who really did the killing? A mystery caller warned Ben to run. Is the killer actually Ben’s accomplice? Will questioning turn up clues that point to someone else? Who else had motive to knock of Will Bonner? Jase knows, and it’s time to close in.
