Jack Benny – Clown Hall Tonight. 360405

Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone and Don Wilson posing for a photo in 1938.

Spring is in the air, and Don gives Jack a flowery introduction. Mary is on hand with a poem about Spring. Mary and Jak talk about… Kenny’s underwear?

In appreciation of Jack, Kenny gives him a pressed flower that gets re-gifted. Johnny plays, Breaking In a Pair of Shoes.

Johnny plugs his appearance in a nightclub. After reading a fan letter, Jack responds with his version of Fred Allen’s radio show. Kenny sings, I’ll Follow My Secret Heart.

A fairly decent rendition of Fred Allen’s show is recreated. In Jack’s Clown Hall Tonight, rather than Town Hall Tonight, The basic elements of Fred Allen’s show are spoofed, imitated, and generally butchered. Jack does a passing impresson of Fred, although he needs to work on the laugh. In the midst of the spoof Johnny Green has the chance to play, Cheek to Cheek.

It’s all in good natured fun, and about 9 months before the well known Benny-Allen fued will begin for real.
