The show opens to a murder scene, when a man proposes to marry his yung gal, her mom puts an end to it by killing the suitor. I guess the phrase, ‘No.’ wasn’t invented yet.
Elsewhere, Blackie is in high spirits as he shares with the cantankerous inspector Farraday that he and Mary have plans to go to Canyon Dude Ranch. On the road trip, Blackie shares more details with Mary. It’s not really a vacation, he’s checking up on suspicious behavior relating to the murder that opened the show.
Back at the ranch, secret plans behind the racket that is taking place there emerge. Mom has some sort of thing going on where she keeps marrying off her daughter, against her will, then killing the would be husbands. Just one more will put them over the top to retire. They better hurry it up before Boston Blackie gets on the scene.
As Blackie and Mary settle into their rooms, clues jump out at Blackie, and his brain is set to work on connecting the dots to solve a murder.
With Blackie on the scene, you’d think the bad guys would lay low, but no. The murderers just can’t leave well enough alone, and yet another murder is committed to cover their tracks from before. Somehow, Katherine, the young lady to be married off, remains clueless over the racket, and goes to Blackie about what she knows of the missing ranch workers. Though Farraday has been alerted to the killings, Blackie seems to be on his own to unravel the happenings.
What is in order is a handy trap to lure the killers out in the open. Mary claims to be on the outs with Blackie. That rat, he only wanted her for her money. It’s just the thing to get Blackies plan in full swing. Farraday actually makes it on the scene, and at Blackie’s lead, they let Mary turn on the charm. Her act is so believable, at least by the mom and pop killers, that they are at each others throats, doing Blackies hard work for him.
With the mystery fully exploded in the open, even Farraday has his work gift wrapped and handed to him. But doesn’t he always when it comes to Boston Blackie?
