Burglary Detail. There has been a burglary at a large necktie manufacturer. Joe Friday and Frank Smith are on the job to investigate. The partners talk about the heat, and air conditioning, then head out to the factory.

The shop owner tells how expensive the hand-painted ties are, and that he has a prime suspect. Bah! Kids these days, always wanting to take the lazy way. Stealing things instead of working hard.

Friday gives the lab report on the evidence at the crime scene. The cops go to interview the man, but only his wife is home. She thinks he is at work, and doesn’t know her husband has been fired, or about the stolen ties. The young bride is in denial that her hubby could have done anything wrong, but she manages to answer Fridays questions.

It’s not looking well for the former employee. Although ties found in the suspects home are verified to just be sample by the shop owner. Still nothing to go on, and the man is still missing. When the man gets home, the cops are there to nab him, and take him in for questioning. The suspect tells how he met a guy named Steve, and the money he told his wife was a paycheck was gambling money. The man seems surprised to be accused, but who would be making trouble for him?

The cops are off to question Steve, who tells a matching story to confirm the alibi. With the set back, Joe and Frank make small talk about their sleeping habits, then a phone call comes in to report where the missing ties have surfaced. There’s another similar factory robbery, typical suspects have been rounded up for questioning. Finally a clue takes Friday back to the shop owner, and a man wearing one of his special ties. The man with the tie is a travelling salesman who tells about the man who sold him the tie. The man in question is said to be a clothing merchant, and of fine reputation.

He is such a nice man, and even helps the cops find all the evidence they need. The kindly burglar talks about his robbery career, and marvels at his luck for not being caught sooner. What a character.
