A pair of privates feel they are owed something, since the unit is under staffed. When Captain Quince sets the hard working soldiers straight on their place in the unit, and priority of the Calvary’s mission, the platoon has more to deal with when they investigate homesteaders who have been killed in an Indian raid. If it’s true that it really was Indians, then who has just taken potshots at the men?
Back in the fort, Captain Quince reports the Indians may be getting supplied with Henry repeating rifles from gun smugglers. Will the major allow him to proceed with a plan to put a quick stop to it? At a social event, Quince shares some of his back story with the major’s daughter. Learn how he came to be an officer and his service in the war as he talks to Miss Lawson.
Going to visit Wild Dog, Quince and his right hand man, Sgt Gorce go in unarmed. Will they be able to get close to Yellow Knife, and the source of the repeating rifles? Though the importance of the repeaters is recognized, the major is forced to keep Army involvement out of it, in order to keep peace with the Indians, and with Yellow Knife.
On patrol, the captain finds the white man who is behind the smuggling. His hands are tied in that his orders are to not harm Yellow Knife. Laying low as they watch the sale go down, private Boatwright and his pal volunteer to move in closer to be sure. Will this be a suicide mission for them? Their dedication sparks off the demand for the Cavalry to swoop in, not only to stop the transaction, but to rescue the privates… And if Yellow Knife is killed in the raid, well it’s a bonus. The smugglers are stopped, but not without a cost.
