Fibber McGee and Molly – Pioneer Day. ep463, 460122

A black and white photograph of Fibber McGee and Molly, a couple from a popular radio show of the same name. They are standing in front of a closet that has been opened, with clothes and other items spilling out onto the floor. Fibber is holding a mop and wearing an apron, while Molly looks on with a smile on her face. The overall effect is one of humor and domesticity, with the couple's playful antics and cluttered living space providing a snapshot of life in mid-century America in 1948.

A big salute to the pioneers who settled Wistful Vista is planned. Fibber tells Molly about who will be participating in the renactment of the old bank robbery along with him. Doc Gamble visits to tell what kind of stake he has in the day of civic pride. The Old Timer visits to tell about his service in the SeaBee’s. On hearing about the event where everyone is dressing up in their best old style western garb, he tells his own experience in the early days of the town. Billy Mills plays a hot rhumba sounding number.

Down town the main street looks like a Roy Rogers movie set with everyone turned out in old fashioned clothes. The McGee’s encounter Mrs Carstairs to swap tales of old west bravado. Fibber tells about indian fighting with Kit Carson. Buck board wagons are outside the Bon Ton department store as Harlow Wilcox hawks the mniracle product of the sponsor. Betcha can’t guess what kind of snake oil that might be.

Wallace Wimple joins the fun to tell about his part in the bank robbery reenactment. The Kingsmen sing, They Went That a Way.

Mayor Latrivia enters to ask how McGee got himself elected as sheriff of the reenactment. A confusing word play ensues on which of the Younger brothers was the elder Younger, and which was the younger Younger brother. This sounds like a job for Abbott and Costello. News cameras are all in place, and Fibber springs into action as he does his part in the live drama. Wouldn’t it be wierd if it were real bank robbers? He might have bitten off more than he can chew.

PS: The Seabee’s are the Navy’s Construction Battalion, and main force that builds combat fortifications for landing parties, roads, airstrips and more. Seabees Can Do!
