21st Precinct – The Bird. ep14, 531006

A black-and-white photograph of Everett Sloane as he stands in front of a microphone, reading lines while recording a radio program for the 21st Precinct.

The uniformed police of the 21st Precinct jump into action with sirens blaring after an emergency phone call comes in. Being the first on the scene, the cops help with clearing the building with the fire department. It’s a mess, but it could have been worse, and fortunately the ambulances will have little to do. In the flat where the gas leak started, a man who is into the numbers racket is discovered, and a huge amount of cash from his gambling ring. Time to get the plain clothes cops in on the fun since they handle vice.

Captain Canelli offers voiceover to provide the nuances on the differences of operation between cops in uniform, plain clothes, and detectives. He works to transition the investigation over to the detectives as a girl is questioned for the whereabouts of the missing racketeer. Can she help? Will she?

Though by Captain Canelli’s own words, the case is one for turning over to the plain clothes cops, he still manages to tag along as the investigation develops.
