Lum and Abner – Cedric Discusses Visit to Draft Board 480719

Two men dressed in traditional Hawaiian attire, Lum and Abner, are seen mid-dance in the center of a small store. Lum, on the left, is playing a ukulele while Abner on the right is swaying his hips and waving his arms. A small crowd is gathered around them, some clapping and others smiling. The store itself is cluttered with various items, including shelves of canned goods and hanging clothes, giving it a cozy and lived-in feel.

Cedric is the latest victim of the 5 year old letters. Today we find Lum on the phone, trying to iron out problems with his bookkeeping. The mix up with the letters apparently came when Dick Huddleston went on vacation, and had Lum help with the Post Office. Lum and Abner discuss Cedric’s situation with his five year old draft notice. Will the time count for seniority? Will he be in trouble for not showing up?

When Cedric returns, he has a long story to tell about his visit to the draft board. Did he enlist or not? Is there some reason that he was turned down? He’s the healthiest man they’ve ever examined. His questionaire took a few days for him to fill out.

Cedric claims to not have ny problem with the answers, just with the questions. In looking closer through the mail, Abner has a letter from St Louis. The news that he thinks is a bill turns out to be notice that he has inherited a fortune.
