Brit Ponset rides into town to have a horse shoe replaced, and he learns about arobbery and shoot up at the bank. He checks out the crime scene and finds clues and tracks. The track leads nowhere, but the blacksmith recognizes the way one of the horses is shod. It belongs to the sheriffs son.
When Brit goes with the sheriff to where the trail is supposed to end, he sees that it doesn’t end. The sherif is defensive, and claims his boy was out of town on a round up. Sounds like the sheriff might be in denial, and trying to protect his boy.
They follow a blood trail to a deserted cabin. For the sheriffs sake the plan is to take his son alive. The kid shoots, the sheriff is hit. Brit sees the kid and in a flash decision is forced to shoot him. It’s not the sheriff’s son, but who is it? Justice is done, and a somewhat of a happy ending can be claimed.
The Sheriff is played by William Conrad.
