It’s Phil’s birthday, and he gets a big greeting from Alice and the girls. When Phil claims to be 30, Alice calls him by his real name, but she still isn’t quite telling Phil’s real age. Phil’s grumpy mood is helped some when he is showered with gifts. Alice sings, They All Laughed.
Frankie stops by with birthday greetings for Phil. Everyone seems to agree that Willies gift is horrible. Try as she might to defend the artistic value of it, even Julius can’t find anything good to say about it. Until they all find out it’s worth something. Will Willie take it back? Will the statue find it’s way to an art auction? Those answers and more fun come, right after Phil sings, Roll Around Heaven All Day.
Julius and Frankie try to act as shills to throw the auction into Phil’s favor. I’m not so sure they’re helping though. Maybe someone ought to tell them what a shill is supposed to do.
PS: Phil’s real birthday is June 4, 1906. He would be 46 later in this broadcast year.
