A different announcer, possibly Frank Nelson, sets the scene in the corner drug store. We join Jack and Mary as they order sandwiches. Wacky soda jerks, and a pampered pekinese both serve to annoy Jack. Kenny Baker pops in, along with Don Wilson. Will there be time to eat, and weigh on the scales before the show starts? Phil plays some traveling music as the gang show up in the studio, Could Be.
In introducing Jack, jokes are made at rival, Fred Allen, and comments he made towards Jack on his show last week are referenced. Don tries to claim his injuries are from a horseback riding incident, but Jack tells the audience about the drugstore mishap with the weighing machine. Defending his sex appeal when Phil enters, Jack points out his recent love scene with Joan Crawford in a recent Screen Guild Theater episode. Mary enters to tell the truth behind the scenes of it. Kenny sings, Deep In a Dream of You.
Despite compliments, Kenny takes offense at Jack, and the cast all rebel to want to go on Phil’s imagined show. At least Don will be loyal to Jack. Interupting his interrupting cast, Jack tries to announce next week’s play. Rochester phones in to tell about tire trouble with the car.
Note: Jack alludes to Phil having his own show, one of these days. But with Mary as his co-star, and Kenny as a singer. Little did he know that Phil would indeed have his own show, but with his own family as his supporting cast.
