Lum and Abner – Abner Peabody Day. 471113

Two men dressed in traditional Hawaiian attire, Lum and Abner, are seen mid-dance in the center of a small store. Lum, on the left, is playing a ukulele while Abner on the right is swaying his hips and waving his arms. A small crowd is gathered around them, some clapping and others smiling. The store itself is cluttered with various items, including shelves of canned goods and hanging clothes, giving it a cozy and lived-in feel.

The last word we had from Pine Ridge was the wedding of little Pearl. It was after her return from serving the troops in Europe as a nurse in an Army hospital.

Today the phone rings off the hook as Ben Withers talks about the excitement of honoring Abner with his own day. What did he do to win such merit? Stay tuned, since the answer will be reviewed in an upcoming episode. The attention has Lum jealous as it eclipses his own claim to fame, that of being the first Admiral of the Pine Ridge Navy.

As Ben rattles on about the ceremony of the day, and all the spectacular people who are contributing, LizAbeth keepx calling. Lum thinks there’s something fishy with her questions about Abner. He can’t quite put his finger on what has her so upset though. However, the listener ought to have little trouble figuring it out.

The moment for Lum to introduce Abner as the town hero comes, but a final call from Lizabeth announces that Abner won’t be there. It seems that Lizabeth cracked his plaque over his head when she thought he gave her a bottle of nitro gliserin to christen Lum’s boat in an earlier episode.
