In the crowded BonTon Department store, Fibber is out shopping for a last minute gift. His shopping for others is all finished, but Fibber is looking for a gift for himself. Schlepperman shows up to swap jokes with Fibber, but nobody believes that McGee is only buying a modest gift for himself. Billy Mills plays, and the Four Notes sing, Mutiny in the Nursery.
Fibber takes the street car home, with Gildersleeve as the conductor. Old Timer joins the fun with his comments. Fibber talks to his friend named Phil about Christmas gifts they’ve bought. Then Fibber manages to invade the space of Mrs Uppington as she takes a ride on the street car. Horatio Boomer has to try to find his transfer, but manages to find anything but a transfer. Don Novus sings, Deep In a Dream.
Fibber brags about being Candy Cane McGee. It isn’t until Fibber gets all the way home before he comes to a realization about the gift he bought for his nephew from that high pressure salesman, Schlepperman.
Note: This is another episode without Molly. In fact, I think the show actually changed its name to Fibber McGee and Friends for a little while. Though some of the other characters would come and go, Molly will make her appearance again in another couple months, and stay with the show until it’s end.
