Lum and Abner – Abner Takes the Witness Stand. 470213

Lum and Abner in a Publicity Photo. 5x6. In this black and white publicity photo, two men, Lum and Abner, are posing together in a studio. They are dressed in suits and ties, with Abner on the left wearing a hat and holding a cane, while Lum on the right has his hands in his pockets. They are smiling at the camera with a friendly and approachable demeanor, creating a sense of warmth and familiarity. The photo has a vintage feel, reflecting the era in which they were popular radio personalities.

Court is in session, and so far setbacks have ruled the day. As they wait, Abner talks to Lum about the admirable way Lizabeth can plow a field. Their lawyer, Mr Walford, seems more interested in his racing forms than in defending their case. Not to mention he’s kind of chummy with Squire.

Today its Abner’s turn to take the witness stand. How will Abner do against the legal scrutiny? Will their legal questions get himtripped up, or will Abners answers get the court confused?

Will things go badly again today? Will Abner’s testimony hurt the case like Lum’s did? Maybe he can undo Lum’s mistake. Or not.

PS: In being sworn in, Abner gives his middle name. Has he ever done that before? he claims it’s Finnly.

Interesting, now I’ll have to go back and listen to all those older shows and see if I can’t find that.

      • It may be somewhere in the same era. They’re arguing over something. Maybe a checker game. Incidentally, online I found other spellings – “Norris Finley Goff” and “Findlay Norris Goff” – but hopefully the Encyclopedia of Arkansas has it right. I’m sure we published it correctly in “The Jot ‘Em Down Journal” – somewhere – during those 23 years! And all those will be online by early next year.
