A man is shot when a band of kittens gun him down! OK, not really, he’s just lured outside by the sound of meowing kittens where he is mysteriously shot. Elsewhere Lamonte Cranston and Margot Lane drive as he recounts a story of a college friend who lived through an embarrassing classroom scene. They are driving to Whittington Hall, and arrive just as more shots go off. What’s the deal with the kittens anyway?
Lamonte is concerned enough to get his pistol from his car. Though Lamonte is greeted by his old friend, he suspects things aren’t quite right. Even Margot has an uneasy feeling, and wants to leave. The wierd sounds coming from the depths of the house are just too intriguing for the Shadow to turn away. Are the strange kitten sounds actually coming from the large watch dogs on the grounds? How can that be?
Are there prisoners being held against their will in the house? Lamonte suspects that horrifying experiments could be going on, and it’s up to the Shadow to sneak around to prove it. He had better act fast though, because Margot has just been abducted and is in danger of being the next subject of human experimentation.
PS: Wow, voice switching. Dogs that meow like kittens? It makes me wonder… maybe there really are such things as barking spiders. It could explain a lot.
