1947, Marriage, Faith, Children, Devotion, Lessons
Cast: Arthur and Ann Wentworth, and Shirley
Just out of the Army, Arthur wasn’t sure he wanted to bring kids into the world. While Ann agrees, she figures they must have really wanted kids, or they wouldn’t have spent so much time trying to talk themselves out of it. Then it happened. God settled their confusion and doubt.
Ann admits they didn’t have a religious angle. They had both been raised in the church, but as adults they had let it slip. It wasn’t until their little girl arrived that they prayed together. They just wanted to thank somebody for the miracle of life. Arthur describes how their home was transformed at the arrival of Shirley.
like a blooming flower, it transformed their juvenile, selfish lives into a deeper, beautiful marriage. It drew them into a deeper religious life. More kids were born, and sitting up with a sick child deepened their personal responsibility, and encouraged them to continue a walk in the faith. They have found their early insecurities in marriage are gone, and both feel more devoted to each other and growing a religious home.
As Shirley enters, Arthur demonstrates how their family devotions have real world applications. The morality lesson impacts more than the children.
