Norman Corwin (CBS) The Plot To Overthrow Christmas. 421224

Three kings kneeling, with stars in the background.

In poetic form, this story begins with Nero, who is being summoned for an unholy council. A plot is being formed to overthrow the most favored of holidays.
The meeting is called to order, as the workers of hell make plans to win over humanity by getting rid of Christmas. Ivan the terrible, speaks his mind, but will Nazis, or Japs be enough to tear apart the holiday? How can the council bring about more to sin? Caligula proposes the end of candies, treats, and gift wrapped boxes. Maybe the end of carols and songs will work?

Will politicians be able to vote it right out of the nation? It may take rubbing out the symbol of Christmas, and getting rid of Santa Claus. Votes,, and drawing lots decide which one will get to take down the jolly old elf. Nero gets to do the deed , and prepare for the showdown.

Arriving at the North Pole, Nero meets Santa, but the element of surprise is lost. Will Santa, and his powers of peace and goodwill overpower Neros evil intent? Has Nero and his crowd underestimated the power of Christmas, and the message it brings? Cheer, and human bonding, the joy of giving, and all the traditions could send Nero on his way. Or might it be able to change his mind?
