Abner takes down an order, and we learn that Lum is gone to buy his new car from the county seat. Though new cars are being made again after the war, there are just not enough to go around. There’s such a waiting list, it could take until Christmas before one’s available. Will it take more than simple determination for Lum to get a new car? Is there any strings Lum might pull to get his new car before Squire?
Cedric comes in with word about someone Lum could call to get a car. Lum gets on the party line to do some favors, forgive debts to the store, do some buttering up of customers, or whatever it takes to discover who the mystery person is who can get him his car.
