Phil and Alice are on the way to a morning rehearsal and talk about their success with the sponsor, and the show. Is there any worries over a renewed contract? Will personality conflicts between Phil and Mr Scot stand in the way? Nah!
Willie arrives to give Phil a hard time over his band. Even the girls express a feww worries, and flub a line that gives Phil a chance to pop in an adlib. In the studio, the band proves their loyalty to Phil, or not. Phil’s iron discipline make the band feel like their back in the Army… or something. They show off with a medley of marches. They play Guy Lombardo’s theme instead of Phil’s. Of course Guy Lombardo was to be the show replacement for the Summer and hints and plugs are inserted through the episode.
Finally Phil and Alice manage to sing, Baby It’s Cold Outside. Excellent performance, one of my favorites.
Frankie makes his appearance to swap insults with Phil as he compares his tallents with Lombardos. Alice and Phil are complimentary to the boss, Mr Scot, but will Frankie do the same? Mr Scot shares his own vacation plans, and admits that he’s the man who writes the commercials. Whether he is, or whether he isn’t, it’s just the thing to set up some jokes.
Scot drops off the contract for next season. After Phil signs off on it, he begins to doubt whether it really was the contract, or a paper to get rid of him. Frankie tries to swipe the envelope, but instead lifts Scots train tickets for his vacation. Alice has the bright idea of just calling the studio and asking what it was that Phil signed, but that would make too much sense, and totally ruin some comedy antics that are sure to develope.
. In the meantime Julius visits, and Phil drags him into the scheme that Phil and Remley cooked up. The wise little kid won’t play along, but as fate will have it, Phil gets another chance to clear the matter with Mr Scot. Frankie knows a guy to help Scot get to New York.
Frank Nelson is a ticket agent who arranges the trip. With the favor done, and the trip all set, will Mr Scot tell what he knows about the signed document? Will the over reacting Frankie dig Phil into a hole, and get him in trouble with Mr Scot? Will the ever patient, and dead pan, Mr Scot, played by Gale Gordon, let our friends off the hook?
In epilog, the sponsor, Phil, and Alice all express their true gratitude towards each other, and to the listeners.
