A letter arrives for Lum in his capacity as head of the Chamber of Commerce. Before he can receive it though, it’s read and lost by grandpap, but did it actually say a manufacturer is looking for a site to build a factory in Pine Ridge?
Lum alerts Squire Skimp to see what real estate is available. Images of production lines, and booming economy run through Lum’s mind. Since there actually isn’t a Chamber of Commerce, the concept of how Lum has involved himself confuses Abner.
Lum arrives on the idea of a ship building plant for Pine Ridge, and Abner is rightly confused when he wonders how ocean liners will make it to the sea. Other facets of the ship building trade becomes a challenge for Lum to describe to Abner. Things like christening the ship, sliding it out of dry dock, and even a ground breaking ceremony.
