Jack Benny – In The Spring Tra La. ep255, 370425

Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone and Don Wilson posing for a photo in 1938.

Mary and Jack comment on the way Phil wiggles when he leads the band. As Don tries to introduce Jack, Phil returns the favor with wisecracks to interrupt Jack’s jokes. Will there be any apologies for the interruptions? Kenny gets confused at the exaggerations that Phil and Jack tell on each other. Phil plays a jazzy number as Jack sulks.

Trying to introduce the play, a tribute to Spring, Mary and Kenny continue to get confused over figures of speech. A chatty friend pops in to get Mary caught up on her latest gossip, and love life. Sam and Thelma meet the cast. Who wears the pants in that relationship? Kenny sings, Sweet is the Word for You.

Everybody seems to have been picking on Jack, and Kenny storms out. Will his play go on? Thelma and Sam leave, and take Mary with them to their farm. Phil leaves, Don leaves, how will Jack keep the audience entertained? Andy Devine offers to cheer Jack up, instead of sulking and playing his violin.

After some traveling music, we join Jack at Andy’s. Meet the whole family in the house without a roof, pig for a couch, and learn how much the Devine family really likes Jack… or do they? Audio gets a little messed up during the visit with Andy.
