Lum and Abner – Abner’s campaign promises. 460220

Chet Lauck and Norris Goff wearing a suit and tie smiling at the camera. Sitting in front of a radio microphone, one holding a script and the other adjusting his glasses -

Back in the feed room, Ward healer Cedric, and candidate for mayor Abner run their printing press. They recall how they got the printing press, and there inadvertent involvement in counterfeiting. Cedric wonders why they don’t do it again. When Abner has to remind him they may end up in the penitentiary forprinting their money. Cedric is pleased with the handbills, and can’t wait to pass them out.

When Lum enters he’s a little discouraged that people in town already consider Ezra Seastrunk’s campaign promises as a reality. They are looking forward to their new City Hall, and paved streets. Lum points out printing errors in the handbills. And is critical of some of Abner’s promises like a greyhound bus line, or airline coming to town. What in the world would Pine Ridge do with a mammoth underground parking lot? Grandpap enters, hollering his pigeon toed brains out, but Abner doesn’t think it will take much hollering for that.

The old gent has word on more of Ezra’s campaign promises: building parks, baseball diamonds and more. There’s going to be an artificial lake for duckhunting, and stocked with new kinds of fish like barracudas. Abner thinks all the talk from the liberal conservative party is just prittle prattle. When the gents learned of the latest giveaway from Ezra, they decide to give away brooms. It just might be the thing to do, to win the women’s vote for the Broom Party. Can Abner get Elizabeth on board to campaign for him?
