Jack Benny – Halloween Celebration. ep419, 411102

Jack Benny and Mary Livingstone on the set of their radio show in 1942.

Turning the clock back to a few days ago, we join Rochester and Jack as they prepare for the costume party planned for Halloween. Mary enters as an Indian squaw who makes fun of Jack’s satan suit. Pranks are planned as more guests arrive. Kangaroo Don is joined by Dennnis Day as a baby kangaroo. Rochesrter tells the latest wackiness about Jack’s Boarder, Mr. Billingsly. When Phil is late, Jack pranks him with a phone call, with his voice disguised as Phil’s father. Dennis Day sings, I Know Why.

The party leans to more adult themes when Rochester is accused of spiking the cider. Waiting for Phil Harris to show up, the eccentric Mr. Billingsley seems to fit right in with the nature of the Halloween fun. Belly Laugh Barton arrives with Phil and the two of them hear all about Jack’s evening of pranks while the band plays a smooth dance tune.

The gang begin their night of terror, squeezing in a sponsor message as they avoid a cop, by having Jack impersonate some of his famous neighbors. Knocking on doors and hiding in bushes brings Basil Rathbone out to scold the hiding children. All the kiddies manage to escape, but Jack is left to face Basil alone. Will this end the night of childish pranks?
