Britt Poncett, the plainsman who wandered the Western territories, leaving behind a string of legends. Today Britt drifts into town to talk to a grocer, and sample his wares. In voiceover, Britt describes a formidable woman who enters. It’s Hellen Bricker, someone from Britt’s past who has aged beyond her young years. What has embittered Hellen so much and given her such a tough reputation in Yellow Crest?
As Britt talks with townsfolks, the deputy, and others, they drop hints that they would prefer that he didn’t get so close with Hellen. The story is that she is involved with a bank robbery. The sentiment, even from her own father is one of disgrace. Word comes that her bandit husband, Billy Startk, is to be brought to town to be hanged. Many in town think she ought to hang right next to him.
Commercial time, public service announcement encourageing filing taxes promptly and correctly.
Feeling the urgency, Britt visits Strand, the father of Hellen. What does he have to say about his daughter, and her situation? Will he take her back in? Will he help her out, or be too embarrassed by her? Things are looking as bleak as they can when the townsfolk come to burn down Hellen’s ramshackle house, and Britt is the only one who is willing to stick up for her. There may be no hope for Billy, but does Hellen have to pay along side for her poor decisions? Her life could be a lot different if not for pride, even her own stubborn pride.
