Chet Lauck and Norris Goff wearing a suit and tie smiling at the camera. Sitting in front of a radio microphone, one holding a script and the other adjusting his glasses -

Grandpap sees Abner walking the streets, and calls him over. He wants to know if Lum has made any attempts on his life yet. Abner tells Grandpap how the gas station owner brought Lum’s shotgun back to the store for him. Grandpap gets himself sidetracked talking about good rifles. That Charlie Redfield has a good one.

Abner just keeps getting more worried spending his time trying to keep an eye on Lum. Grandpap speculates what lungs shotgun is loaded with, birdshot, or buckshot? Abner tells grandpap he’s so jumpy that when he heard a car backfire he nearly panicked.

Abner wants grandpap to come to the store with him, so he has someone he can trust to hang out with. Meanwhile back in the store, mom is on the phone to talk to the squire about Abner’s strange behavior. Entering the store, grandpap reads the almanac, while Lum and Abner get caught up on business for the day.

Tension hangs in the air and causes awkward moments for the two old friends. Not wanting to turn their backs on each other, Abner trips over some buckets as he answers the phone. Will the two be able to work together and putting the delivery from the wholesale house away? Worried about being killed, Abner falls off the ladder and knocks Lum down. With Lum unconscious, has Abner learned the truth about how he was going to be killed?
