Jack Benny – George Washington Slept Here. ep461, 421220

Jack Benny, Mary Livingstone and Don Wilson posing for a photo in 1938.

Touring military bases on the East coast, Jack and the cast poke fun at such aspects of military life as being on KP, the stockade, and more. Dennis joins the fun. Will he take Jack’s hint at a Christmas gift for himself? Abe Lyman is the guest bandleader, and tells how he went from taxi driver to musician. Don introduces, Olivia Ross, who has a word to encourage other young women to join the nurses corps. Dennis Day sings, White Christmas.

Jack leaves the studio with Mary and Dennis. They take a sleigh ride to a near by house where George Washington is said to have slept there. It also, of course, pitches his latest film Jack made with Ann Sheridan. The sleigh driver warns of a haunted mansion, but Jack doesn’t care. What are the random screams in the house? Rochester thinks its more than just nothing, and lets his boss bravely lead the way.

Jack dozes, and dreams he is back in Revolutionary times with Washington’s army. Jokes abound with running gags from the show, and some related to the film.
