When a man enjoys his 30th birthday cake, he is warned to be sure to get all the candles blown out in one breath, or its bad luck. The friends joke that they all must have hadd bad luck for the past 2 or 3 years based on the ordeal of the depression. A clue that these undated shows were produced around 1932 or so.
Whether it’s the true account of this superstition or not, a dramatization of a birthday celebration is recounted. When one candle is left burning, shadowy figures are seen, and a robbery averted. Huh? That doesn’t sound like bad luck to me, unless it was for the robber. But wait, a twist results in further happy endings. If this is all true,. it would seem that it’s good luck to miss a candle instead of bad luck.
