In the bank, Sgt Wilson fills sandbags, as cashier Pike announces an visitor. Cpl. Jones. The fellow Home guard member goes over his finances and a bounced check with Capt. Mannering. The miscommunications and problems aren’t limited to finances. Pike sweeps up a sandy mess into Mannerings sugar bowl.
Is Jones going to have to face bankrupcy over hiss overdraft? Will any of his friends be able to loan him the funds? It wouldn’t look right for the banker to give Jones a break due to his Home Guard connection alone. However, he calls a meeting with the men to see if they might help him out as a unit.
Meanwhile, rival officer Hodges is put off by Mannering on an urgent matter. Will he take the matter to Mrs. Mannering to get results? Discussions on how to help Jones continue. The mystery is about to be solved, and is about as exciting as a Charlie Chan movie. or at least according to Pvt. Pike. Where will the money trail lead? How does the hand of the lovely Mrs. Pike come into the matter?
Just an FYI….
While it is pronounced “Mannering”. The correct spelling is “Mainwaring”. In fact, in one episode the pompous Captains Square says something like, “Well, if it’s not pronounced ‘Mainwaring’ why is it spelled ‘Mainwaring'”?
I knew I wasn’t spelling it correctly, but I didn’t think I was that far off. Thanks for letting me know
