It all starts with a phone call to the precinct desk, and a case is followed through the course of it’s investigation and resolution. Captain Canelli presents the scene as his uniformed police officers respond to a false fire alarm. His voiceover message shares statistics on hazards to firemen when alarms are misused. What would cause a person to purposely make a false alarm? Listen to learn this man’s story, and about his problem with shooting up on drugs.
Besides getting the story, Canelli has to deal with the internal duties of his office. He deals with shift changes, coordinating with detectives, and the like. The druggie isn’t going to reveal his sources, so the police follow up on the clues they have at hand. A patrol of the neighborhood is set up, searches of the man’s apartment, and talking to people in the area.
More of the human plight of life as a drug addict is drawn out, and the twisted logic in how those in that scene help each other out. Even when they might want to kick the habit, sometimes the habit kicks them.
