Grandpap and Abner discuss Lum’s determination to be the best football coach ever, despite his lack of knowledge. The gents compare him to other coaches and teams in the area. Abner sticks up for his friend, even though grandpap reports on the staggering losses. Their star player is Frog Dixon, but he hasn’t made much of a showing so far.
Lum enters with a football rule book, but he thinks it’s written all wrong. After hearing the official explaination of how players line up on the ball, even Abner feels the book is a little mixed up. The gents run through some descriptions of plays, and basic rules. The descriptions of the stance the players take are confusing even for Abner and grandpap.
Should Lum even bother with the rules at all? Grandpap thinks the game these days is too easy≤ and Molly coddles players. As Lum tries to defend the confusing rules, Cedric enters with the news their star player is moving to a rival school.
