Written by Daschel hamlet. A small town sheriff finds himself with a big town problem on his hands when a prisoner is found dead in his jail.
Meeting the train, late one evening is just another part of Scot’s routine checks while making the rounds in his little town where everybody knows everybody else. His deputy, Wallace spots a man, whose face they had earlier noticed on a circular. The killer has fallen into their hands, and all that’s left is to hold him overnight, and release him to the authorities in Philadelphia.
Their captive has declared his innocence, but goes along. Awakened by a phone call, Scot gets the word his prisoner was found in his cell, from apparently hanging himself. The easy going lawman quickly questions his deputies, and learns all he can from the coroner. Once the word is out, attention spotlights the town. The wife of the dead man arrives, and twists emerge.
The flyer was a forgery. Wallace claims that while he was on undercover duty, the friend who accompanied the wife knows him, but not as a cop. A detail from the coroner indicates foul play before the noose was tied on the dead prisoner. Heat rises from the state’s Attorney, and Scot goes into full damage control as he sets the stage to nab his killer.
Did the long missing wife have reason to knock off her rich hubby? Is there someone else who had a motive to kill him? It couldn’t be an inside job, could it? Scot knows, and his trap for the killer brings the case to its surprising conclusion.
