Lum is determined to give his new idea of selling stock in the store the best appearance. To make the place look like a successful stock exchange, he has brought in chalkboards, and marked them up like the professional stockbrokers of the time might do. Abner is a little confused and thinks Lum is trying to sell produce, like potatoes.
Lum has a stock ticker, that is really just for show since he’s the one who will be both sending and receiving the reports. Will his explanation of the bulls and the bears, and how they influence the market answer any of Abner’s confusion?
How will bulls and bears be able to read Lum’s handwriting, when Abner can hardly read it? Abner figures he can set traps for the critters, and sell the meat in the store to help out with meat shortages. It turns into a public service announcement meant for folks to abide by the rules regarding meat shortages. Lum gets on the party line to announce the first day of trade of the new Pine Ridge Stock Exchange.
